COCOA HARVEST
Exploring the Origins and Production of Chocolate
The Brief To research the origins of chocolate and explore different illustration styles to visually communicate the process.
The Outcome The final illustration combines handmade textures with digital techniques to create a printmaking-inspired style that reflects the natural, handcrafted origins of cocoa production. Through this project, I also experimented with a digital lino-cut aesthetic, using bold shapes, textured marks, and simplified forms to create a strong visual impact.
Research played an important role in shaping the final outcome. I explored how cocoa is grown and harvested, studying the different stages of production as well as the clothing, tools, and working methods used by cocoa farmers. This helped me create illustrations that were more authentic and represented the people and processes involved in cocoa cultivation. Incorporating these researched details added depth to the illustrations while allowing me to communicate the journey of chocolate in a visually engaging and informative way.
